Importing the module causes it to configure a completer function for <a class="reference internal" href="../readline/index.html#module-readline" title="readline: Interface to the GNU readline library"><tt class="xref py py-mod docutils literal"><span class="pre">readline</span></tt></a>. The only other step required is to configure the tab key to trigger the completer.
